Barefoot is a 5 piece band – lead guitar,
rhythm guitar, keyboard, base and drums
Music is mostly 60s and 70s – familiar songs
(people can sing along to because they know the words) and mostly
rock and roll dance music.
History
Barefoot started with Gary and Bob meeting at
Karaoke in the Si Como No bar.
We were hanging around with several musicians at the various
Pasco nudist clubs and had a desire to start some kind of jam
sessions on a regular basis.
In fall of 2005 we approached Caliente to do a talent show
which included several musicians, as well as, other performers.
Don Stover, former guitar/vocalist with Mollie Hachette
joined Bob O. to perform and coordinate the event.
We talked about finding a bar where we could do regular jam
sessions. About this
time, we met Bruce Ballas, a local Land O lakes guitarist who had
the same idea and set up jam sessions at The Lakeside Inn restaurant
and bar. After a few
jams, we were told that the restaurant had been sold and that we
were doing our last jam that night.
In December 2005, Gary and Bob decided to contact Como to see
if they would be interested in having jam sessions at the Butt Hutt.
On January 6, 2006 we had our first Butt Hutt jam session.
It was a booming success and we were invited back in
February. The event
continued to bring in the crowds.
Como then approached us to do the jams every 4th
Friday of the month for the rest of the year.
Around the time of our second jam session, Bob met Dan
Stewart and invited him to come out to the Butt Hutt.
Dan introduced Ron App to the group about the same time.
We decided that having a house band for the jam sessions
would be a big plus and began looking for a base player that would
complete to the group.
Dan introduced us to Kevin Tambling to play base and our band was
complete. We talked
about our future and decided we wanted to become the Caliente house
band. We wanted to start
somewhere else first while we were getting things organized.
The Butt Hutt fit the bill.
Shortly thereafter, we adopted the name Barefoot.
After a few practices and jam sessions, we realized that we
were becoming a pretty good band.
Kevin decided that he couldn’t commit full time to the group,
so we located Luke King, who was playing base at one of the local
jam bars to take his place.
We continued to play the Butt Hutt through 2008.
We did a few parties and other venues (including Paradise
Lakes, Caliente, Paradise Pines and Whiskey Willies) but primarily
we played the Butt Hutt.
Beginning in 2009, our dream came true and we became the house band
for Caliente where we play at least one a month.
We like to play for fun a lot more than for the
money. We don’t want to
spoil the fun by turning the fun into a job, so we try to limit our
performances to 2 or 3 a month.
We shy away from Saturday nights because some band members
don’t want to give up that precious free time with their significant
others. On the other
hand, if we don’t play but once a month, we forget things and make
more mistakes. It takes
a careful balance to keep the band in shape and not feel like work.
